Is poetry the most pretentious of all the arts? Even the Merrimack flows both ways, although it iced up two nights ago. Who wouldn’t at two degrees above zero! But the current of history is a democratic one despite the tendency towards the status quo. Still poetry is finding that hidden backwater where the elite can meet in arguments of majesty and fiefdom. I wonder if the Merrimack will open up tomorrow since we’re expecting rain and temperatures in the fifties. Maybe I should wear a different cape, adopt a new identity, and drop this adolescent infatuation with superheroes. That’s the ticket! Oh, and Happy Holiday to all of you from all of me.
