The third stanza stands unitary. The signature of the poem. The Self of Advaita. Not the little self, but the witnessing awareness. That which we really are. And after awakening, then what? An idiot saint? A nihilist zombie? Or in the game and out of the game? In the world but not of the world. Like the language of computers, we may just be zeroes or ones in this dream. Perhaps we are some kind of organic computer. Some bacterial binary code. And each of us plays a simple bit. A One (a dualistic one, that is) or Zero. Maybe awakening just works with whatever we were to begin with. A Zero is a zombie and a one is simply wonderful. But in a non-dual world, where’s the place for that? In the end, one needs to choose. Or rather one is chosen. Love is the dream I know. Not that romantic love of movies and romances, but the love of universal attraction. Love is the merger of one and zero (or one and one, and zero and zero). Love is the union of molecular matter. Love is the absence of ego and fear. Love is consciousness conscious of itself. Love is the Real One. And so, the next dream, when the dreamer is aware that it’s dreaming. The second stanza, although in couplets still, goes without punctuation for the first five lines. It, like the first word in the stanza, is open. As will be the heart. Not the physical heart, but that intuitive heart, the actual intelligence within. Opening that heart allows one to simply be. And from that state, one can recognize that which is before all thought and emotion, that in which all thought and emotion arise (including that thought once thought to be the who I was), that which I truly am, that spirit which is simply conscious and aware: being. Or God. And in so doing, or in so surrendering, one knows through the heart one’s connection with The One, that one is in truth The One.~Hridaya Nada 2008
After surrender arrives the rest. Let go into your center. Let go into that intelligence of the universe. Let go into its quiet guidance. Your quiet center. As all the scientists in all the world have found nothing before the Big Bang, rest in that same nothing. That same quiet nothing where, as in the macrocosm, the microcosm mirrors. Your silence is that same silence. The scientists don’t say so, but all the mystics do. You won’t be fooled by that master thought called ego. You’ve surrendered that belief. And with it, its fiction of the will. Just think of your body’s innate intelligence, and all those functions that operate without any conscious doing on your behalf. And imagine the breadth of the universe and what intelligence rests there in its astounding silence. And rest there in that silence. In your silence. Let that silence take you.~Hridaya Nada 2008
The essential truth cannot be known by the mind. For the essence of thought is duality, and the essence of the essential truth is non-duality. Thought is 'why'. The truth just is. Thought is relative. Truth is absolute. Not that there’s anything wrong with thought. It’s a good tool when used correctly. But it’s hell when believed to be the truth. It turns into a never-ending ride, for one thought believed today becomes unbelieved tomorrow, only to be replaced by another thought believed, then unbelieved, and so on and so on. So, now, the first thing is surrender belief. Let thoughts flow freely but cease lending emotional weight to them by filling them with belief. Don’t resist them. And don’t surrender to them. Just surrender investing them with all belief. Let them pass. In doing so their control will soon cease. You will be free of the illusion that thought can provide you the truth. You now will be free just to surrender. Period. As a leaf surrenders to the breeze, one simply surrenders to the truth.~Hridaya Nada 2008
First, form. We find ourselves at first in form. In the duality of couplets. And the first couplet is in a mirror image of itself. Beginning with Now. No other beginning will do, of course. Any other beginning would be a lie. The past is just a memory and the future but a thought at best, a worry at its worst. The only truth is now. And once so simply stated, the next inevitable truth is only now. And on and on ad infinitum within this opening couplet. There one finds oneself, beginning with now. Staying in now. Only in now. One needs to leave the past and future behind completely, rid the form of any thought of them at all. Start Now. And stay now.~Hridaya Nada 2008
