Simple Commentaries on Neo-Sutra 1: Belief
On the Second Couplet

Surrender belief,
surrender.
The essential truth cannot be known by the mind. For the essence of thought is duality, and the essence of the essential truth is non-duality. Thought is 'why'. The truth just is. Thought is relative. Truth is absolute. Not that there’s anything wrong with thought. It’s a good tool when used correctly. But it’s hell when believed to be the truth. It turns into a never-ending ride, for one thought believed today becomes unbelieved tomorrow, only to be replaced by another thought believed, then unbelieved, and so on and so on. So, now, the first thing is surrender belief. Let thoughts flow freely but cease lending emotional weight to them by filling them with belief. Don’t resist them. And don’t surrender to them. Just surrender investing them with all belief. Let them pass. In doing so their control will soon cease. You will be free of the illusion that thought can provide you the truth. You now will be free just to surrender. Period. As a leaf surrenders to the breeze, one simply surrenders to the truth.
