The New Prophecy (part two)
In the time of cheap gas time
wandered the earth. I met her once
in Melrose. She was on a train.
I was in the parking lot.
Her face appeared within a window.
I recognized her contact lenses.
The sky was macadam and wet.
Then everything quickly collapsed.
There’s something in the backyard screeching.
I looked out through the picture window
but only saw a rose reflection
of someone looking out the window.

This stanza is brilliant. A word rhyming with itself, depicting a reflection: aural and visual symmetry. Lest anyone (such as myself) believe that rhyme is for the ear alone.
Though I might be semantically incorrect here, dunno if repetition technically counts as a rhyme per se. In this context, within a rhyme-scheme where other nonidentical words are rhyming, I'd think it counts as a rhyme!...
Thanks Mark. I needed that. But you're right, technically it's not a rhyme. But I though it worked in the context. And i'm not after the technical these days. Just one line at a time.
